Penultimate round of Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2011 to flag off

– Rahil Noorani leads championship standings with Vishnu charged up after a great session in China
– Legends´ race for yesteryear speedsters of Indian motorsports

Chennai, October 12, 2011 – The JK Tyre Volkswagen Polo R Cup has reached the penultimate stage with round 5 in Chennai this weekend. All the action will unfold as the MMSC Race Track will witness the most crucial round which might decide the outcome of the championship. Rahil Noorani, Vishnu Prasad and Avdumber Hede are very close in contention of the coveted title of the Championship with very few points separating them. Very close behind is the consistent Oshan Kothadiya followed far behind by the only female driver, Alisha Abdullah. Vishnu and Avdumber recently participated in Polo Cup China as part of the ‘Driver Exchange Program´.

The Chennai circuit has proved to be an exciting one with a lot of drama unfolding and championship lead changes happening here. Last round saw Vishnu (228 points) being displaced by Rahil (235 points) for the championship leader position. Vishnu, who has had a string of penalties, is raring to go all out after a promising stint at Polo Cup China. The Goa lad, Avdumber (225 points), has inched closer to the title with only 10 points between him and the leader, Rahil. Oshan (206 points), who missed out on crucial points in race 2 of last round, is gunning for a top 3 finish in the championship. With these drivers being familiar with the Chennai race track, the competition will be much closer and time differences much smaller.

"Last round in Chennai was very exciting and has left the championship completely open with two more rounds to go. We have four drivers who are all in with a possibility to win. Round 5 will be crucial for the championship contenders and they will have to put on the best performance to ensure the title goes down to the wire", said Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India. He further added, "This round will be more exciting as we have a special Polo R Cup race for the legends of our Indian motorsports fraternity. Our racers of yesteryear will suit–up, take the wheel and burn the rubber once again, just like the old times."

This round will host a special Polo R Cup race for the legends of Indian Motorsports. Ace racers like Leelakrishnan, B Vijaykumar, Radha Selveraj, Akbar Ebrahim, Gaurav Dalal, Kamlesh Patel, Khushru Madan and Vicky Chandok will push the pedal of the Race Polos and vie for the win at the Irungattukottai race track.
